Ohio

Jeffersonville Chapter    WCA

   Hello, My name is Susan,
.

I am 49 years young. I live in Jeffersonville, Ohio. My life is wrapped up in serving God, my husband, my children, my community, my world, and am currently working on a degree in Nursing.
So, with all this on my plate why volunteer for one more thing?? Because good health, nutrition, and exercise is good for the body, mind and soul. It enables us to reach out to others with positive imput for their lives. Walking clears my mind, helps me organize my thoughts, and gives me fresh perspective on lifes issues.

At the age of 44 I was overweight which I had carried for many years. After many up and down weight losses, every diet in the world, family members being diagnosed with diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart trouble, I decided to make a change. I began walking 15 minutes a day (thats all I could handle).
I started reading everything I could get my hands on about walking and low fat eating. I kept walking, soon reaching up to one hour a day. The weight fell off, my body became strong and the best part was my self image also increased.
My routine now is 3 miles 3 days a week , 5 miles 3 days a week, with light weight workout 3X's a week.

These past 5 years have been quite a journey. I live in the country and enjoy walking each day around the corn fields. I participated in the Hawaiian Marathon in 1996. I was Chairperson for the walk commitee with the National Multlple Sclerosis Society 3 yrs. running. I participated in the world tour with walkablock last year.
I believe in what walkablock is achieving in getting people interested in each other, neighbors speaking, walking our neighborhoods. I recently introduced walkablock to the college I attend. It was very well received.
I am busy with my family, school, volunteer for Hospice, help an organization in Slavakia called the Slovakian Union of Jewish Students, and help consult on web site designs.

Please contact me at gladsong50@hotmail.com if you need support...

New York
Rockville Centre Chapter    WCA

Hello. My name is Dr. Lucie M. Taustine.

I'm a psychologist, psychoanalyst and former registered nurse and paramedic. I'm a strict vegetarian and animal rights advocate. With all that training and education, you'd think I'd also be fit and healthy, but that couldn't be further from the truth. In fact, I'm seriously overweight, and struggling to get into shape. In my defense, however, I must add that I have always had a metabolic disorder , which has contributed, to my inability to lose weight (regardless of how crazy and restrictive the diet). Unfortunately, I sit all day at work, and I'm a deeply lazy person. Despite that, however, I've done the gym thing, lifting weights, tromping along mindlessly on a treadmill, pedaling nowhere on an exercise bicycle, and battling with machines which often seem absolutely possessed!! Result? Not even the slightest improvement. So, now I'm turning my attention to something which has been proven, millions and millions of times...something natural, free, and (hopefully) less torturous! I'm committing to walking.
Maybe not a marathon at first...maybe just a block, then two, then a mile, then two. I don't know where it will take me...literally and figuratively!
I'm looking forward to hearing from local people (South Central Nassau County, NY), perhaps also overweight and out of shape...people who are generally timid about (excuse the language) EXERCISE, but want to make a commitment to themselves, each other (and maybe even me!).  If I can drag my husband, Michael (a wonderful man, smart, funny, and also seriously overweight and equally lazy) along on our walks, certainly you can come along as well!

Please feel free to contact me by e-mail at; DOCLMKT@aol.com
Let's do this together. It's really going to be as easy as putting one foot in front of the other!!

IMAGINE HOW DIFFERENT THINGS COULD BE!
By Ken and Maryanne Alegria

I used to suffer from the "should have, could have, would have “ syndrome. Often, this was a good thing but more often, not. If only I did this or didn't do that and on and on it would go. It took a lot of time for me to realize that my life and the emotions I felt concerning it, were the results of my choices. As a child, I was (and still am) a reader. We had a small community library and I believe I read every book available! One book would create curiosity about another subject and I would seek and find and read and seek until the road to know everything became totally ridiculous! Processing all this information became a burden. I had not planned to be so confused. Without a plan, I had a scattered direction. And so I would walk..... The years have gone fast. So much has happened. I have made great choices and some really not at all good choices! But, alas, I still love to read and enjoy a daily walk . Often, it is a walk to think though a worrisome situation and other times it is a walk to awaken my heart and mind to the many blessings in my life. Sometimes I need to walk for my heart and soul or to chat with a friend, or to spend time with my dog or to laugh with my family. It's part of my foundation. The basics are everso simple and yet we often complicate things.

My Bio... Hello I am Vicki,
.

I have been married for 16yrs with 1 child and then last fall I joined this wonderful National Internet Walking Club. For years I have made many excuses why not to exercise and stay healthy. When I came upon this club, it just hit me, I liked the approach and the incentive the leader gave for everyone to get up and walk, even if it is just a block.
By walking we can transform our mind, body and soul into a New Person as well as motivate each other to keep on with our walking programs.
I have Muscular Dystrophy which requires me to keep my muscles in good shape which I hadn't done in the past. Since joining I am breathing better, and feel more alive than ever and when I don't walk I feel something missing in myself.
For anyone looking for an activity that is low key and a good way to get out and meet others, have fun and simply enjoy, then I suggest that you please join me.
For motivation or just some good old soul chat, e-mail me at buffye625@yahoo.com

Washington

Washington Chapter    WCA

  Hello, My name is Wendy
.

I would like to say how proud I am to be a part of this Club. The WCA has high standards and holds life and its living in high esteem. The vision of Walkablock, "“America Walking Together as Friends”", carries a sort of sign of the times feeling about it. I know how important doing the right thing and living the right life is because I am the mother of my two wonderful sons {9 and 6}.
I live in the beautiful, small town, of Davenport, WA. Population 1800. My husband and I have been married for 12 years and my occupation is; Wife and Mom. In my spare time I do the obvious, house chores, and then the fun begins. I spend special time, playing with, and teaching my kids, I play Softball, coach Varsity Volleyball, I am the cheerleader advisor, I sing on the Worship team at church and am the Chairman of the Pioneer Days Parade Committee. I love to laugh and I love to talk. As you can see I stay pretty busy.
With Walkablock, I have the opportunity not only, to meet more people and laugh and talk, but also to have an energizing rest from my daily activities. As everyone knows, I’m sure, the more active you are the more energy you have.
